After spending some years pursuing music as a dark indie/alternative-leaning singer, the artist who became Baby Goth was reborn as a highly stylized rapper/singer. A major-label contract brought swift exposure, including a debut single in 2018 that found a completely previously unknown Baby Goth trading verses on her first track with established rap superstars Trippie Redd and Lil Xan.
Baby Goth was born Bria Bueno in Arlington, Texas. Her family moved around frequently throughout her childhood and she turned to writing songs as a stabilizing force in her often-ungrounded early life. She played in various bands growing up, singing in bluegrass acts and writing her own songs throughout high school. By the end of her teen years she was living in the Colorado area and releasing songs under her own name online. In 2018 she signed a deal with the mysterious Hitway Records and transformed from a singer/songwriter type into a more rap-oriented singer. Taking the name Baby Goth, Bueno’s stylistic makeover included face tattoos and photo shoots centered around drugs and guns. She relocated to Los Angeles and began her life as a major-label artist. Her first appearance as Baby Goth came in the form of a feature on Trippie Redd’s 2018 mixtape A Love Letter to You 3. Days later, a video for her first single “Swimming” was posted, featuring both Trippie Redd and Li'l Xan. The song was a viral success, but the way Baby Goth emerged seemingly out of nowhere raised some questions from fans and critics about her authenticity and background. A self-titled EP arrived in early 2019, featuring “Swimming” and tracks with cameos from Wiz Khalifa and Blitzedoffleah. In April of that year she returned with new single “So High.” ~ Fred Thomas
