About this artist

Singer/songwriter Allison Ponthier often disguises her grandiose pop songs as unassuming indie country-folk, putting crystal-clear melodies and straightforward instrumentation at the forefront of deceptively complex arrangements. Her social media following helped bolster her music career, and after issuing several singles, Ponthier signed with Interscope Records for the release of her 2021 EP Faking My Own Death. A second EP, Shaking Hands with Elvis, arrived in 2022.
Born in 1996 in the Dallas, Texas suburb of Allen, Ponthier grew up surrounded by music. Her parents introduced her to jazz and country, and her grandparents were both elementary and middle school music teachers. She started writing songs while still in high school and spent two years studying jazz at the University of North Texas before moving to Brooklyn at age 19 to focus on her career. After self-releasing music for a few years, Ponthier scored a record deal and began building interest in her music on the back of her already strong social media presence. In 2021, she issued several singles and appeared as a featured guest on the Lord Huron song “I Lied” before releasing the seven-song EP Faking My Own Death in August of that year. After joining Bleachers on tour as the group’s opening act in 2022, Ponthier issued her second EP, Shaking Hands with Elvis, featuring tracks like “Autopilot” and “Hollywood Forever Cemetery.” ~ Fred Thomas
