이 아티스트에 대하여

Australian electronic producer Alice Ivy crafts soulful soundscapes with hip-hop samples — recalling work by the Avalanches, Gramatik, and L'Orange — and maximizes her appeal across genres by working with a diverse array of vocalists. After she made her full-length debut with I'm Dreaming (2018), she saw her profile rise significantly with Don't Sleep (2020), an ARIA-nominated recording highlighted by the gold-certified, dreamlike Ecca Vandal collaboration “In My Mind.” Do What Makes You Happy (2024), Ivy’s third full-length, featured appearances from the likes of Låpsley, BJ the Chicago Kid, and Mayer Hawthorne. The Melbourne-based artist born Annika Schmarsel got her start as a guitarist in a soul band, later embarking on her own to explore electronic music. Ivy’s debut single, 2015′s “Paint Me Blue,” featured Chloe Beckwith on vocals. The following year, she released “Touch” with Georgia van Etten and “Almost Here” with RaRa. Both of those tracks would later appear on her debut full-length, I'm Dreaming, which was issued on Last Gang Records in early 2018. Written primarily while touring in support of her debut, Ivy’s second album was recorded with such diverse collaborators as alternative rapper Cadence Weapon, indie singer/songwriter Bertie Blackman, and neo-soul singer Ngaiire, just to name a few. Titled Don't Sleep, it arrived on Last Gang in mid-2020, and was propelled by “In My Mind,” which went gold in Australia. The album earned an ARIA nomination in the category of Best Dance Release. (Ivy was also nominated for Engineer of the Year.) Preceded by a slew of 2023 singles led by “Howlin’ at the New Moon,” Do What Makes You Happy arrived as Ivy’s third and most organic album in November 2024. ~ Neil Z. Yeung & Andy Kellman
