Anguished, tormented, and searching, 93FEETOFSMOKE makes emotionally turbulent trap pop. The rapper/vocalist started out with an intense bass-shrouded sound on his earliest work, but grew more melodic while still exploring themes of addiction, heartbreak, and severe depression on albums like 2022′s GOODGRIEF.
93FEETOFSMOKE was born Marciel Bauer in 2001 and grew up in Richmond, Virginia. His first work under his rap moniker appeared in 2016, and his early sound was a more screamy, emo-infused take on the troubled rap/pop territory popularized by artists like Juice WRLD and Lil Peep. Early singles, EPs, and mixtapes appeared regularly, and eventually 93FEETOFSMOKE released the album-length project SOFUBI in 2020. By that time, he’d already gained some exposure with a few angsty singles, and that year he appeared on the collaborative song “Pumpkins Scream in the Dead of Night” with Shinigami and Savage Ga$p. The song would eventually be streamed tens of millions of times, bringing 93FEETOFSMOKE to even more listeners. In 2022, he released GOODGRIEF, an album that featured more melodic singing, more accessible production, and guest spots from Phem, Kamiyada+, and Extra Large Holiday Card. ~ TiVo Staff
