Texas native Zachary Knowles mixes earnest acoustic songwriting with dreamy electronic bedroom pop that occasionally detours into low-key R&B territory. His self-released 2018 EP Feelings racked up enough streams to earn him a contract with the Fader label, which issued 2020′s Magnolia EP. Follow-up singles like “Carpool” and “Dancing in the Kitchen” reinforced his reputation for chilled-out summertime pop.
Growing up in Magnolia, Texas, Knowles’ first instrument was a light-up keyboard his parents gave him. During his high school years, he began recording songs at home that he shared on streaming platforms. The strong response to Knowles’ early work encouraged him to expand his production value, and during his freshman year of college he began releasing singles with a slick, spacious sound that mixed his acoustic guitar riffs with yearning vocals and atmospheric electronic beats. “Slow Down My Thoughts” from his 2018 Feelings EP became a streaming hit and eventually led him to sign with Fader for subsequent releases like “Ghost” and “Cherry Wine,” both of which appeared on the 2020 EP Magnolia. 2021 brought additional singles like “Johnny & June” and “Dancing in the Kitchen.” ~ Timothy Monger
