East London-born rapper Yxng Bane specializes in dancehall-infused R&B, but doesn’t shy away from blending genres from across the board. He implemented elements of drill, trap, and electronic pop while showing an appreciation for mainstream accessibility on releases like his impromptu 2020 mixtape Quarantime: The Lost Files and singles like the infectiously sunny Stefflon Don-assisted track “Birthday.”
Yxng Bane first appeared online in 2015, when he began uploading tracks to SoundCloud; the streaming counts quickly rose, giving him a platform to make music videos. At first, Bane was reluctant to reveal his identity, choosing to hide his face behind a mask. However, the mask was eventually removed, revealing his face to the public for the first time in the video for “Lone Wolf/Pronto,” which saw release in the run-up to his debut EP, 2016′s Full Moon. The following year, Bane geared up for the release of his next project, Bane of My Existence (aka B.O.E.), leading with the single “Fine Wine” in collaboration with Kojo Funds. 2018 proved to be a banner year for Bane with numerous collaborations including his feature on the Banx & Ranx and Ella Eyre hit “Answerphone” and the release of Any Minute Now, a collaborative full-length with D-Block Europe. He capped on his impressive year with his own mixtape, HBK. Over the next few years Bane focused on releasing singles, including 2019′s collaboration with Roddy Ricch and Chip “How It Is,” and the next year’s “Cut Me Off” featuring D-Block Europe. In 2020 Bane released the stylistically diverse mixtape Quarantime: The Lost Files, which included guest features from Kojo Funds, M Huncho, Headie One, and others. In 2021 he released several new songs of his own and appeared on Wes Nelson’s single “Nice to Meet Ya.” ~ Liam Martin
