Young Oceans is a meditative and spiritual-minded neo-alternative art rock project that originated as a collective affiliated with Trinity Grace Church in New York City. The group is the brainchild of songwriter and worship leader Eric Marshall. Since debuting eponymously in 2012, the group has released a string of acclaimed efforts like I Must Find You, Suddenly (Or the Nuclear Sunburst of the Truth Revealed), You Are Fullness, and Somehow I Know It’s Love, which stand at the nexus of worship music and art rock. Young Oceans released their eponymous debut album in early 2012, followed closely by the companion instrumental set Before the Beginning and the Advent EP. The group’s sophomore full-length outing, I Must Find You, arrived in 2014, and also spawned an ancillary instrumental collection, Steady the Stars. Voices, Vol. 1 arrived two years later and saw Marshall and company revisiting songs from previous releases with the help of a small army of guest vocalists that included Leeland, Evan Wickham, Ellie Holcomb, All Sons & Daughters, Sarah Macintosh, and Mike Donehey (Tenth Avenue North). The Eucharist-themed Suddenly (Or the Nuclear Sunburst of the Truth Revealed) appeared in 2017 and was followed by the collective’s first tour, which resulted in the 2019 concert LP/film Among the Ruins. Prior to that, the band released a collection of holiday music titled Songs of Christmas. Young Oceans’ fourth studio long-player, the intimate You Are Fullness, arrived in 2020. 2022′s Subjects in Motion featured stripped-down, largely acoustic versions of older songs performed by a cadre of under-the-radar Christian artists, while 2024′s Somehow I Know It’s Love saw Marshall and co. deliver a soulful and contemplative set of songs rooted in themes of forgiveness and devotion. ~ James Christopher Monger
