Florida-based rapper Wifisfuneral is noted for his smooth, agile flow and his brutally honest lyrics about his struggles with drug abuse and depression. An early member of the Members Only collective, along with founders XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God, he broke out with solo mixtapes like 2017′s Boy Who Cried Wolf and released his official studio debut, Pain?, in 2020. It was followed by a continued stream of mixtapes and short-form releases, including 2022′s 4 Month Binge Before Revenge and Until We Meet Again EP and the 2023 single “On My Sleeve,” a collaboration with electro-pop artist Shelby Carter.
Wifisfuneral was born Isaiah Rivera in the Bronx and raised in Palm Beach, Florida. He wrote his first raps in primary school and made his first bedroom recording at the age of 13. A high school dropout, he started rapping under the name Izzy Kill$ before going by Wifisfuneral, a name inspired by his then-collaborator Gabe Guerra, aka DJ Scheme. They produced a few streaming hits, including the Brian Eno-sampling “Light Skin Trick Daddy,” before Scheme struck out on his own. Several EPs preceded the Wifisfuneral mixtape Black Heart Revenge, which appeared in May 2016, followed by When Hell Falls in January 2017. Rivera signed with Interscope/Alamo/Polydor at the age of 19, and Black Heart Revenge was given an official label release in 2017. Another mixtape, Boy Who Cried Wolf, followed in August of the same year. It contained a remix of “Wha?,” a single from that year that amassed streaming numbers in the millions. 2018 saw the release of the spooky and atmospheric Ethernet, with Conn3ct3d, a collaboration with Robb Bank$, arriving in early 2019. Two EPs, Ethernet 2 and EV3RYTHING SUCKS, appeared during the year. After announcing his premature retirement, Wifisfuneral instead released his debut studio album, Pain?, in 2020.
He returned just a year later with the EP Smoking Mirrors, and in 2022 he delivered both the 4 Month Binge Before Revenge mixtape and Until We Meet Again EP. The latter included the popular late-night anthem “1 AM.” In January 2023, Wifisfuneral had a featured spot on the melancholy Shelby Carter single “On My Sleeve” before embarking on a headlining tour of North America. ~ Marcy Donelson
