A Kentucky-bred singer/rapper with a smooth and moody R&B style, Vory first gained national attention in 2015 after appearing on the track “Don’t” by fellow Louisville native Bryson Tiller. Over the next few years, he began releasing his own solo tracks and collaborating with a variety of artists including Cassow, Blu, and AD while earning some big-time writing credits for Drake and the Carters. In 2020, he became one of the first artists signed to the Dream Chasers label, which released his self-titled mixtape, followed in 2022 by the full-length album Lost Souls.
Capitalizing on the high-profile exposure gained from working with Tiller, Vory — then working under the name King Vory — debuted with his own mixtape, Overdose, in 2016, which was hosted by Adrian Swish and DJ Radio and featured contributions from Lil Bibby, Zaytoven, AD, Blu, Nick E Beats, Ayo N Keyz, among others. Shortening his name simply to Vory in 2017, he returned with a trio of singles — “Try,” “Do That Shit,” and “Hold of Me” — that further established his melodic, dark-hued sound. In 2018, Vory became more ubiquitous, releasing tracks like the hypnotic “Control” and the fiery “9.22″ and featuring on a variety of songs by artists like Reese LaFlare, Justine Skye, Pierre, and Cassow. He also notched some high-profile writing credits with Drake and the Carters, earning a Grammy Award for the latter’s Everything Is Love album. A year later, he returned with the SAY EP, featuring the single “Save Me Now.”
His profile significantly raised, Vory inked a deal with Meek Mill’s upstart Dream Chasers imprint and delivered an eponymous mixtape in late 2020. Finally, in 2022, he made his full-length debut with Lost Souls, which benefitted from some notable guest spots including Kanye West, BLEU, and NAV. Upon release, the album topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart. ~ Timothy Monger
