A suburban Chicago-based metalcore unit that incorporates elements of djent and deathcore into their punishing sonic assault, Veil of Maya released their first album, All Things Set Aside, in 2006, after signing to Corrosive. The band spent the lion’s share of the next two years promoting their debut through the age-old classic ritual of constant regional and national touring. Eventually they were able to get a bit of time to record some new work, and in 2008 released album number two, The Common Man's Collapse. Signed to Sumerian, the group embarked on further touring, playing with like-minded decibel pushers Arsis, A Life Once Lost, and labelmates Born of Osiris. 2010 saw the release of their third studio long-player, ID, followed in 2012 by the savage and condensed Eclipse, the latter of which clocked in at just over 28 minutes. In January 2015, the band dropped the single “Phoenix” in anticipation of the release of the full-length Matriarch, which arrived later that May. A pair of vicious singles, “Overthrow” and “Doublespeak,” heralded the release of the group’s sixth LP, 2017′s False Idol. ~ Chris True
