About this artist

She spent about two weeks with the Honey Cones in the late ’60s before joining the Edwin Hawkins Singers. She married Walter Hawkins and was a featured singer with the Hawkins Family in the ’70s. She debuted as a solo artist in the ’80s with albums on Light, A&M, and Sparrow labels. She has a strident, shrill belting style on usually traditional-styled black gospel numbers or ballads such as “Highway” and “The Potter’s House.” ~ Bil Carpenter
