Following a successful career with Nigerian collective L.O.S. (Loud on Sound), Tomi Thomas branched out on his own with his 2014 solo debut, Patience, lighting up the Afro-pop scene. A string of singles followed including his 2021 EP Hopeless Romantic.
Born in Lagos, Thomas grew up in the northern city of Kano before returning to the capitol with his family. A keen performer from a young age, he quickly found his way into music, becoming a member of the Nigerian Afro-pop outfit L.O.S. Following several releases from the group, Thomas branched out on his own in 2014 with his solo debut, Patience. Fusing Afro-pop with R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall, Thomas quickly made a name for himself, with tracks such as “Ready or Not” with GMK peaking on the Nigerian charts. Thomas’ debut album, Black Couch, Vol.1, was released in 2016, followed by the Illusion EP with fellow Nigerian producer LeriQ. “Hopeless Romantic” appeared in 2020, along with a remix featuring U.K. dancehall artist Stylo G. He released the Hopeless Romantic EP in 2021 with dancehall legend Buju Banton. ~ Rich Wilson
