He studied at . After leaving the Guildhall, he was appointed Principal Cellist of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, becoming the youngest Principal in the UK at the age of 21. Principal Cello with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (1995-2008). Principal Cello of the Philharmonia Orchestra since January 2010. Member of the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra.
