Australian country band, the Wolfe Brothers, rode a series of increasingly popular albums to widespread national success in the middle part of the 2010s. After placing second on the 2012 seasons of Australia’s Got Talent, brothers Tom and Nick Wolfe released their debut album a year later before landing their first bonafide chart-topper with the rousing 2014 country-rock hit, “That Kinda Night.” Their mix of earnestness, country grit, and pop gloss earned them a devoted fan base as the hard-working brothers continued to steadily ascend the charts with subsequent albums like 2016′s This Crazy Heart and their 2018 breakout, Country Heart, which won Contemporary Country Album of the Year at the Country Music Awards of Australia.
Growing up on the island of Tasmania, Tom and Nick were encouraged by their father, a drummer, to pursue music and initially gravitated to the guitar (Nick) and piano (Tom). The music played around the house was a mix of 90s country artists like Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cyrus and rock and roll. They formed the Wolfe Brothers with hometown friends, Brodie Rainbird and Casey Kostiuk as their rhythm section, releasing a self-titled EP in 2010.
Their national break came in 2012 when they competed in the sixth season of Australia’s Got Talent, ending as runners-up behind Andrew De Silva. Along with heaps of exposure, they also came away with a record contract from ABC Music/Universal Australia who released the Wolfe Brothers’ debut, It’s On, in 2013. It was a modest success, reaching #18 on the ARIA chart and earning them several nominations from the Country Music Awards of Australia. A year later their follow-up, Nothin’ But Trouble, yielded the hit “That Kinda Night,” which hit #1 on the Country Singles chart. Over the next few years, the band’s star steadily rose with their third album, This Crazy Life, hitting #10 followed a year later by a collaboration with Lee Kernaghan, “Damn Good Mates,” from his chart-topping 25th Anniversary Album. The Wolfe Brothers notched a pair of chart-toppers of their own in “Ain’t Seen It Yet” and “Country Heart” from their 2018 album, Country Heart. A rousing success, and their most personal songwriting to date, Country Heart earned two awards at the Country Music Awards of Australia in 2019.
