A British-born actor who could charm and sing, Davy Jones found the perfect vehicle for his ambitions with The Monkees. During their heyday in the mid- to late '60s, Jones and his compatriots in the band—Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork—were teen idols with a hit TV show and a string of smash singles. Each band member had their own particular wit and strength, with Jones providing stand-out lead vocals on such radio staples as "Daydream Believer" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You." Originally dismissed as the "Pre-Fab Four," The Monkees made music with incredible longevity thanks to impeccable songwriting and the band's endearing personalities.
