Thashil Ramdass

About this artist

Thashil Ramdass is a singer-songwriter, producer, musician and audio engineer, hailing from the little town of Ladysmith, in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. Thashil's love for the creation of music truly began on a little nylon string acoustic guitar when he was just 13, and has blossomed ever since.

Over the last 10 years Thashil has experimented with a multitude of genres, instruments and facets of the musical craft. He began to tie this experimentation into a musical process in 2016, when he moved to Johannesburg to pursue an education in audio engineering. It was during this time that Thashil began to craft his sound, and following his graduation in 2018, he continues to refine the different elements of his pop heavy sound.

Perhaps the two biggest influences to Thashil's sound are Ed Sheeran and John Mayer. It's no surprise then, that his sound is so heavily rooted in guitar elements. His exposure to 80s idols, such as Phil Collins and Lionel Richie, in his parents car growing up, is also often audible in the retro elements of his music. As a child of the 2000s, RnB/Pop elements from the naughties, embodied by artists such as Neyo, also find their way into the sonic picture. His sound is tied up by subtle electronic production elements, procured largely from his love of Owl City's seamless integration between acoustic and electronic elements.
