Tauren Wells

About this artist

A Christian vocalist and songwriter, Tauren Wells makes emotive, dance-oriented pop and R&B. Wells initially garnered attention as the frontman for the CCM outfit Royal Tailor before launching his solo career with 2017′s Grammy-nominated Hills and Valleys. Wells continued to have chart success with subsequent efforts Citizen of Heaven (2020) and Joy in the Morning (2022).
A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, Wells co-founded the faith-based dance-pop band Royal Tailor in 2011 with fellow Indiana Bible College classmates DJ Cox, Jeremy Guzman, and Blake Hubbard (Jarrod Ingram rounded out the group soon after). Together, the band released two popular full-length albums and one EP between 2011 and 2013, during which time they also picked up two Grammy nominations and a Dove New Artist of the Year award. Wells eventually parted ways with the group to pursue a solo career and inked a deal in 2016 with Sony CCM imprint Provident Label Group, releasing his first single, “Love Is Action,” followed by the EP Undefeated that year.
Early 2017 saw the release of the single “Hills and Valleys,” which proved a Christian radio hit and paved the way for his debut full-length, also called Hills and Valleys, that June. Boosted by heavy Christian radio airplay of “Hills and Valleys” and “When We Pray,” the record earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. In 2020, Wells returned with his sophomore full-length effort, Citizen of Heaven, which landed at number three on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. Wells kicked off 2022 with the release of the Aaron Cole-assisted hit “Fake It,” which served as the lead single for Joy in the Morning, his first outing for Capitol Christian Music Group. ~ James Christopher Monger
