Tamba Trio

The Tamba Trio was a musical ensemble formed in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s. Originally composed of Luiz Eça, Bebeto Castilho and Hélcio Milito, the Tamba Trio took shape when the three members accompanied singers Maysa and Leny Andrade in a season at a Manhattan nightclub, performing alongside Luiz Carlos Vinhas and Roberto Menescal. From 1967 on, with the entry of bassist Dório Ferreira, Bebeto would play only as a flutist, thus transforming the trio into the Tamba 4 quartet. Two years later, with the departure of Luiz Eça, who would form his group "A Sagrada Família", the pianist Laércio de Freitas took his place. The quartet would last until 1970.
Tamba Trio returned with the three original members only in 1971, recording two records on the RCA label. In 1976 another hiatus began and four years later the group returned, performing and recording the LP "Tamba Trio 20 Anos de Sucessos," released in 1982. From 1989 on, drummer Rubens Ohana, who had already participated in the Tamba Trio, rejoined the group, replacing Hélcio Milito. The group continued until 1992, when Luiz Eça died.
