DJ SunnySun (SLO/CRO)
Sunny Sun is a DJ, producer, MC, promoter, and entrepreneur. Half Syrian, half Croatian living in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Independent artist that falls in love with Hip-hop through skate movies in the '90s.
First started to MC fifteen years ago, inspired by a home-recorded selection of American Hip-hop mixtapes and begun to join freestyle open mic events and eventually recorded his own mixtape as an MC. After that, he has dedicated himself to DJ-ing and digging for rare records which all led to beat-making and producing.
Sunny began to develop DJ skills about 12 years ago and since then he performed as a DJ at various parties, events, dance battles (Just Debut Ljubljana, Throwdown, All In Celje, Kidz Battle…) and live shows, where he shared the stage with most of the top MCs from the region (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia) and also foreign artists like Jeru da Damaja, The Beatnuts, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, J Live and many others...
With two turntables and mixers, his sets lead from golden age hits to underground hidden treasures which again reveal the constant digging for dope music. In addition to hip-hop, his music preferences also include House, Disco, Funk, Jazz, Yugoslavian breaks, Future beats, Miami bass, and Juke/Footwork..
When he’s not out, performing or working in his studio, Sunny also shares his knowledge with the youth. In 2014, he co-founded “DJ Telovadnica” (DJ Gym) – free bi-monthly DJ workshop. As he is involved in various other DJ and beat-making workshops as an active member of hip-hop association GOR.
Besides being an artist, SunnySun is also a promoter and entrepreneur. Promoting and organizing various events and festivals. One of the most notable is definitely 7toBeat, which is a beat-making and dance battle, where beat-makers and dancers battle each other on the stage at the same time. Sunny is a proud owner of BigNose label, which has already released music from various local MCs & beat-makers and a newly opened BigNose record store based in Ljubljana where they had streams (also for RedLightRadio)
His first beat "Carobno" was released on Rx:Tx label. Followed by "Raw Medicine" in the summer of 2014 on vinyl compilation Stiropor. Radio Student's "Ctrln" compilation featured his beat "When We Smoke". Sunstrumental Vol. 1 & Vol. 2, released on 7” vinyl is a joint venture betwin his own BigNose label together with Rx:Tx. He has also produced many local Hiphop artist like Ajs Nigrutin, Klemen Klemen, Smoke Mardeljano, Mrigs&Ghet, General Woo, Emkej and many others..
