Stuff Smith

About this artist

If your first name was Hezekiah, you'd go by "Stuff" too. Smith was a delightful jazz violinist who swung from the late 1920s up through the '60s. He fit in snugly with bopsters and vocalists (Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald) and appeared on a myriad of Verve albums. His hipster vocal work remains funny decades after his death, but young listeners will likely be most familiar with Smith's featured solo spots on Nat Cole's ever popular After Midnight album.
