About this artist

The churning, feminist-themed indie punk of New Zealand’s Miss June draws on ’90s grunge, noise pop, and a snotty post-punk in the tradition of Romeo Void, repurposed for the social-media generation. After releasing the punk-minded Matriarchy EP in 2015, they returned with a more melodic blend of punk and noise pop on their full-length debut, 2019′s Bad Luck Party.
Lead singer/guitarist Annabel Liddell, guitarist Jun Cheul “James” Park, bassist Chris Marshall, and drummer Tom Leggett formed Miss June in Auckland, sharing the demo “Pixielated (So Curious)” in early 2014. They returned with a more urgent sound on the next year’s Matriarchy EP, following it with a split single with Dunedin’s Astro Children in 2016. In 2018, the song “Twitch” opted for more-melodic vocals that resurfaced on their first album, Bad Luck Party. It arrived on Frenchkiss Records in 2019. ~ Marcy Donelson
