Solmund Nystabakk (*1982) was born in Sørfold, Northern Norway. He studied guitar at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he also studied lute and early music. Currently working as a freelance lute player and guitarist, Solmund’s repertoire spans from the renaissance and baroque via classical guitar music to contemporary music and free improvisation. He is a member of Rank Ensemble (FI) and the Belgian baroque ensemble Scherzi Musicali, with which he made his recording debut in Domenico Mazzocchi’s opera La Catena d’Adone for the label Alpha in 2011. Together with Canadian mezzo-soprano Debi Wong he founded the duo White Sparrow, which was awarded 1st prize in the Nordic early music competition, EAR-ly, in 2012, in Oslo, Norway.
