About this artist

A £100 inheritance spent on a Korg mono synth at the age of 10, followed by the purchase of an Atari ST a few years later sowed the seeds of a life long desire to create music with electronic roots. Simon’s first job after leaving school was making tea alongside being trainee tape op in OMD's studio, the Pink Museum in his home town Liverpool. Moving away from Liverpool to study Fine Art was when he met like minded revelers, musicians and music lovers. Late night jamming with psychedelic spacers EGG and listening to anything and everything alongside clubbing all weekend set the foundation for a passion for creating music.

On arriving to his now home town Belfast, Simon started writing, performing and releasing as Solaris before forming drum'n'bass outfit Spree. Spree went on to release many tracks on labels such as Aspect records, Formation, NIR amongst others while also being a prolific live act. Spree headlined events across Europe, Asia and the U S A, as well as playing the highly regarded Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury alongside acts such as Amy Winehouse, Michael Franti, and the Quantic Soul Orchestra. Spree live received greater acclaim when voted by the public in the last three of the Best Live act category of the Knowledge Magazine Awards, up against London Elektricity and I Kamanchi.

As a side project Simon joined forces with Paul Brown (Bedlam) and Robin (Touched and Crazy) to produce dub reggae and also performed a live set supporting the Legendary Lee "Scratch " Perry and also collaboratated with Irish nu-jazz maestro’s Belcrash.

Most recently, working on a house tip with Quentin Kane, Simon and Quentin have plays and praise from house dons such as DJ Spen to Dave Clarke and Studio 54 resident Kenny Carpenter to Detroit legend James Pennington. With releases backing up and a new live show on the horizon I think we may be seeing a bit more of Quentin and Simon.
