British conductor from London, born on 3 July 1956. Since 1993, he lives in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He was educated at King's College, Cambridge and after graduating there he studied singing and conducting in London, Munich and Manchester.

During the period 2001-2009, he was artistic director of the then Musik i Väst, and since 2003 is artistic director of Läckö Opera.

He formed the choir in 1997, which changed its name to in 2007. With his choir, he won the Grand Prix in the Florilège Vocal choir competition in Tours in France in 2007. The choir was named Choir of the Year 2006 by Rikskonserter. In addition to a number of recordings for Sweden's Radio P2, the choir has recorded several records.

Simon Phipps is also the conductor of Västra Götalands ungdomssymfoniker, an orchestra that was previously run by Kultur i Väst but is now administered by .
