My passion is old time down-home blues music, mostly dating from the 20s and 30s. I play a variety acoustic and resonator guitars- with and without a bottleneck slide, in the fingerpicking style- rather than strumming. I play songs ranging from thumping delta blues, to bouncy ragtime numbers, as well as a few of my own tunes. My ever-growing repertoire includes songs by the likes of Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Charley Patton, Blind Blake and Mississipi John Hurt, as well as many other more obscure names.
I have been playing and singing for many years and played for a while with a 4 piece acoustic covers band, The New Meanies, at pubs and beer festivals in East Anglia. My solo performance experience has largely been playing short sets, open mics, busking and so on, as well as a Blues Night "featured artist" slot at the Platform Tavern in Southampton. I made the decision recently, to create more time in my schedule for music and am actively looking to perform acoustic blues regularly, in venues around the South West. I would also potentially be interested in working as a duo or small band with an interest in pre-war blues music.
