About this artist

Shkurte Fejza (born November 18, 1961 in Mušutište, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Kosovar folk musician. She mainly sings traditional Albanian folk music.

Fejza's songs were completely banned in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1981 to 1983, and she was imprisoned in 1986. Until Kosovo's independence, songs like hers weren't played on radio or television in Yugoslavia; they were only sold as video recordings, but nevertheless spread among the population. Shkurte Fejza was the most famous singer whose works became popular in this way.

In 2013 she received the Mjeshtër i Madh award from Albanian President Bujar Nishani.
