Shelly Berg

Shelly Berg is a five-time Grammy-nominated pianist, composer, arranger and producer and has performed with symphonic orchestras and festivals worldwide. His diverse collaborators are a “Who’s Who” in classical, jazz and popular music and include Renée Fleming, James Galway, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby McFerrin, Seal and Gloria Estefan.



Berg has served as a pianist, music director and arranger for multiple PBS specials including “In Performance at the White House,” Gloria Estefan’s “The Standards” and the “Library of Congress-Gershwin Prize.” Berg was invited to arrange the 10th anniversary of the Emperor of Japan’s coronation “Japan Concerto” as well as composing the official theme for the 1986 US Olympics.



Berg’s commissions for classical music works include the “Dalai Lama World Festival of Sacred Music” and the “Dranoff-Two Piano Competition.” He has composed and orchestrated for countless recordings as well as feature films, including “For Your Consideration,” “Almost Heroes” and “Men of Honor.” His numerous compositions for television include “A League of Their Own” and the mini-series “The ‘60s.”



In addition to his work as an artist, Berg is recognized as one of the most important educators in academia. In 2000, the Los Angeles Times declared him the “Music Educator of the Millennium.” Berg is currently the Dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami and is the author of seven music textbooks for Alfred Publishing and Kendor Music.



Berg also hosts his regular Sirius XM Radio series “Generation Next” and is the Artistic Curator of the “Jazz Roots” series at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center as well as the Music Director of the Jazz Cruise.
