Sabrina Claudio is a singer and songwriter whose artful and sensual R&B ballads exhibit her feather-light if demonstrative vocals. The Floridian emerged during the latter half of the 2010s and put up big streaming numbers with songs like “Belong to You” and “Unravel Me,” both of which appeared on About Time (2017), her debut mixtape. Duetting with Khalid, she entered the Billboard R&B chart with the non-album single “Don’t Let Me Down” (2018) before she delivered Truth Is (2019), highlighted by the ZAYN collaboration “Rumors.” Between her next two projects, Based on a Feeling (2022) and the compilation Archives & Lullabies (2023), she co-wrote “Plastic Off the Sofa” for Beyoncé, and as a consequence earned her first Grammy nomination. A handful of collaborative singles and the unassisted “Need U to Need Me” (2025) have followed since then. As a youngster, Claudio first soaked up the dance music she heard in her native Fort Lauderdale and was eventually drawn to pop-oriented contemporary R&B like Mariah Carey and Destiny's Child. Her first major steps as a recording artist were made in 2016, when she appeared on songs by the Classmatez (“No Titles”) and Duckwrth (“I’m Dead”), and uploaded an EP titled Confidently Lost. Within the span of half a year, her track-play count was in the millions. Her debut full-length, About Time, offered a couple tracks from the EP, as well as the pre-release singles “Unravel Me” and “Belong to You”; the digital-only mixtape charted in dozens of countries. Claudio released her sophomore full-length, No Rain, No Flowers, in 2018, with the singles “All to You,” “Don’t Let Me Down” (featuring Khalid), “All My Love” (featuring Wale), and “As Long as You’re Asleep” arriving in early 2019. The latter appeared later that year on Truth Is. In 2020, Claudio issued her first holiday album, Christmas Blues. Relatively quiet the next year, she returned in January 2022 with the sultry “Put On Repeat.” The track, along with similarly resonant slow jams like “Better Version” and “IOU,” appeared on her next full-length, Based on a Feeling, which arrived that May. Claudio then co-wrote Beyoncé’s “Plastic Off the Sofa,” and Renaissance, its parent release, was up for Album of the Year at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, in turn making Claudio a nominee as a contributing songwriter. Archives & Lullabies, rounding up stray material and acoustic versions, appeared in 2023. Following that, Claudio swung between collaborative and solo singles such as “Like Her Too” (co-headlining with Mario), “Modo Avión” (a Spanish-language ballad), and “Don’t Speak” (produced by Marshmello), followed by the aching “Need U to Need Me,” her first 2025 recording. ~ Andy Kellman
