Rio Da Yung Og

Michigan rapper Rio Da Yung OG has a direct style that aims for gut-punching bars more than hooky choruses or anything resembling pop structure. Sticking to high-powered, often confrontational street raps, the prolific artist releases new projects frequently, delivering multiple new mixtapes in a single year, with standouts including efforts like the 2020 album City on My Back and 2024′s Rio Circa 2020. After serving a jail sentence, the rapper celebrated his release with 2025′s Rio Free. Rio Da Yung OG comes from Flint, Michigan, and he began rapping as early as 2017. Over the next few years, he took on a highly productive work ethic, releasing numerous mixtapes and stand-alone tracks like the 2019 collaboration with RMC Mike, Dum and Dumber Too, and 2021′s Murder Mitten Babies with Baby Zeek. His first studio album, City on My Back, was released in 2020 and included features from Icewear Vezzo and Babyface Ray. Despite some trouble with the law and a subsequent jail sentence in early 2021, Rio Da Yung OG continued steadily releasing new music throughout that year, teaming up with a host of other rappers for the group tape Back from Michigan and going it alone on the shorter Fiend Lives Matter. Throughout 2022, he released mostly singles, including “Cold Hearted” (featuring Louie Ray) and “Speak the Truth.” 2023 saw the EPs The F Tape and Ed, Edd and Eddy (with GrindHard E and RMC Mike). The concise album Rio Circa 2020 arrived in 2024. Rio was released from prison on December 11, 2024, and Rio Free appeared the following month along with the single “Something Happen.” ~ TiVo Staff
