Phantoms

A Los Angeles-based EDM duo featuring the talents of Kyle Kaplan and Vinnie Pergola, Phantoms deliver icy/hot electro-dance beats with a dash of techno and heavy dose of pop hooks. The self-described “alternative electronic” group emerged in 2016 and caught fire the following year with the chart-topping single “Just a Feeling” (feat. Vérité). More hits followed, including “Say It,” “Moonlight,” and “Firepit,” the latter of which appeared on the duo’s 2022 sophomore full-length effort, This Can't Be Everything.
Friends since the age of 15, the pair dabbled in the Disney side of the television and film industry — Kaplan was featured in Hannah Montana and 10 Things I Hate About You while Pergola appeared in That’s So Raven and Miss Behave — before shifting all of their focus onto music. After honing their chops as DJs, the duo began producing their own music under the Phantoms moniker, releasing their eponymous instrumental debut EP via OWSLA in 2013. For their follow-up, Kaplan and Pergola hooked up with songwriter and N.Y.C. transplant E.B. Sollis, who helped to steer the project in a more song-oriented direction. The resulting Broken Halo EP, released in 2015, would be the group’s first outing for Casablanca Records. A handful of remixes and singles followed, culminating in the release of Phantoms’ official full-length debut in March 2017. 2018 brought a pair of collaborative singles in “Agenda” featuring Nicole Millar and “Lay with Me” featuring Vanessa Hudgens. The following year saw the duo issue the singles “Designs for You,” “Are You Up (feat. Shaylen),” and “Say It (feat. Anna Clendening).” A string of singles, including the hits “Firepit (feat. Big Wild)” and “Lay It All on Me (feat. Jem Cooke),” heralded the release of 2022′s full-length This Can't Be Everything. ~ James Christopher Monger
