One-half of an indie rock duo called Mount Dreams, Mehdi Benjelloun also produces lean and dreamlike dance music, inspired by the likes of Bonobo, Shlohmo, and Flume, as Petit Biscuit. Along with numerous singles, he has released two LPs, 2017′s Presence and its 2021 follow-up Parachute. Benjelloun, a native of Rouen, France, started making music on his synthesizer at the age of 12 and was a quick study. Within a couple years, the multi-instrumentalist — who can also play cello and guitar — was uploading early recordings to SoundCloud. In May 2016, at the age of 16, Benjelloun released a self-titled EP highlighted by the dazed “Sunset Lover” and the whimsical “Once Again.” Petit Biscuit peaked outside the Top 50 in France. Benjelloun made his first performances around the same time, including an appearance at Festival Panoramas. 2017 brought the Møme collaboration “Gravitation,” one of several singles released that year that later appeared on Benjelloun’s first full-length, Presence, which expanded his reach by charting in France, Belgium, and Switzerland. In 2018, Petit Biscuit issued a series of singles, starting with the Top Five hit “Demain” with rap duo Bigflo & Oli and following with “Wake Up” and “Suffer Safe.” “Wide Awake” and the JP Cooper collaboration “We Were Young” appeared in 2019. In March 2020, he contributed a cover of Angus & Julia Stone’s “Chateau” to the duo’s charity brushfire relief compilation Songs for Australia. That May, he paired with Shallou for the single “I Leave Again” which later appeared on his second full-length, Parachute. A remixed version of the album was issued in early 2021 featuring mixes by Manu Dia, Jai Wolf, and others. ~ TiVo Staff
