About this artist

Nautilus Pompilius, sometimes abbreviated as Nau (Russian: Нау), was a prominent Russian rock band formed in Sverdlovsk (now Ekaterinburg) in 1982-1983. They were an influential band in the post-punk, New Wave wing of Russian rock music. Some of their early hits are popularly associated with the Perestroika period. Their songs accompanied the movie "Брат" by Aleksei Balabanov. Since the group disbanded (1997), lead singer and front man Vyacheslav Butusov has launched a successful solo career.
The majority of the lyrics for the group was written by Илья Кормильцев.

Was formed in 1982 under name "Али-Баба И Сорок Разбойников". In 1983 changed name to "Наутилус", and later in 1985 changed name to "Nautilus Pompilius" - to avoid confusion with the Moscow band "Наутилус" (led by Евгений Маргулис).
