A young prodigy of Farruko’s Carbon Fiber Music, Puerto Rico’s MILLY worked his slick R&B vocals into the sounds of reggaeton and dancehall, producing global anthems like “No Te Enamores (Remix).”
Though MILLY (born Carlos Javier Sánchez Troche) earned his stripes as a slick vocalist, his start in the music industry came from the field of choreography, landing work with artists like Jowell & Randy through his teen years. At the age of 19, he turned his sights to music: under the alias of Millenary, Sánchez Troche fused rap and R&B-esque crooning with debut release “Pa’ Mi Nama” (2016). Though continuing to build his rap-R&B blend in the late 2010s with “El Nuevo Gato Tuyo” and “Pal de Mujeres,” Millenary soon found greater success in the rising spheres of Latin trap (“Amber Rose”) and reggaeton (“Celos”). These early moves caught the eyes of Farruko’s Carbon Fiber Music, who signed the young vocalist in early 2019.
Rebranding as MILLY, Sánchez Troche made his Carbon Fiber debut alongside an all-star cast; “No” allowed the PR vocalist to show his knack for infectious melodies and slick deliveries, between strong verses from Sech, Farruko, Miky Woodz, and Gigolo y la Exce. Bolstered with the success of tens of millions of streams, he found similar success with “Date Tu Guille,” once again working with a dominant roster including Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro. The end of 2019 proved a testing ground for solo work, as he continued to drop relationship-driven tracks like “Lucifer” and “Hoy.”
MILLY would soon find global success. While 2020’s “No Te Enamores” made an underground impact, it was immediately superseded by its dominant remix. With appearances from Farruko, Nio García, Jay Wheeler, and Amenazzy, the “No Te Enamores (Remix)” had hundreds of millions of streams worldwide, along with a 15-week run on the Billboard charts (peaking at number 74). This success carried through the early stages of 2021, before the vocalist returned in May with “Tas Bota.” ~ David Crone
