About this artist

Rapper Mike Floss was born in Chicago in 1991, but his family moved to Nashville soon after he was born. Son of respected jazz trumpeter Rod McGaha, Mike grew up surrounded by music and quickly developed his own musical aspirations, first to follow in his dad’s footsteps on trumpet and later moving on to hip-hop. By high school he was performing locally under the name Openmic, but switched to the Mike Floss moniker sometime in the early 2010s as his style started to take shape. His debut album, Don’t Blame the Youth, surfaced in 2015, recorded in Atlanta with production help from Ducko McFli. Floss completed the album by grabbing studio time any chance he got, sleeping on friends’ couches or even the floor of the recording studio while waiting for late-night session time to open up. Following the album’s release, Floss toured regionally and continued to headline larger clubs in his home base of Nashville. He followed up the album with a string of singles, including 2016′s “Kerosene” (produced by Shmuck the Loyal) and 2017′s “Take Yours.” ~ Fred Thomas
