About this artist

Midnight Mystery Club, the creative duo of David Paul Newell and drummer Llavar Mindley, has carved its niche in electronic music since 2015. Originating from California's Central Coast, their journey began with the Balearic foundational release of Keep a Beat on ’s Pete Goodings's Secret Life Records.

Newell’s career spans from being an Audio Engineer in Nashville to co-writing for House artists like The Shapeshifters and Michael Gray (who co-produced the debut album Reason or Rhyme). Mindley’s expertise as a touring drummer for legend William Bell, among others, was foundational to the band’s development.

Their collaboration sparked in 2016 through a chance encounter, culminating in the acclaimed Reason or Rhyme. Their blend of deep house, soulful grooves, and dreamy Balearic electronica earned them the 2018 Independent Music Award for Electronic Producers of the Year.

Their music has been featured in Cafe Mambo Sunsets and Cafe del Mar XXVI as well as campaigns for Zara, The Gap, and Tommy Hilfiger. With over 10 million organic streams on their independent label, Playing Hooky, they have gathered a worldwide audience of dedicated fans.

Continuing to draw inspiration from classic 70s and 80s artists, they create a sound that is both nostalgic and timeless. Their latest release, A Church in Ibiza featured by Joe Morris on Shade of Summer, Vol. 2, epitomizes their ethos of transcending the ordinary.
