About this artist

While coming mainly from the Prairie provinces of Canada, it wasn’t until 1998 that the three members of Mico found each other. John Stewart, Todd Lapp, and drummer Troy Fleishhakker were performing first in Banff, Alberta, before relocating to Calgary. There they met and added another guitarist, Todd Harkness, and also guitarist and backing vocalist Patrick May. Known and regarded as one of the loudest bands to play in Western Canada, the group released various EPs and split 7″ vinyl albums with bands like First In Last Out and the Milwaukees. In 2001, the band released the swirling and sprawling rock album Standing Inside a Shadow. The band has toured North America with the likes of Koufax and North of America. In 2002, the group released their first video, for “Section One,” and returned to the studio to record another EP and another full-length album. The group has a following in Britain and Japan, mainly for their mix of punk rock and art rock in the vein of Sunny Day Real Estate, the Smiths, and My Bloody Valentine. ~ Jason MacNeil
