This was the name given to the Victor Talking Machine Company's first "house orchestra". The Metropolitan Orchestra was directed by S. H. Kendle and Frank Kelly and existed solely to record for Victor. They used standard "stock" orchestrations but substituted a clarinet for the violin lead
