Matt-U

Sobre esse artista

Look inside the record bag of any Matt-U fan and you’ll find at least one of his records which has been battered to death, possibly on both sides. In a fickle music scene based on fizz and hype, there’s something special about a producer who writes rock-solid tracks that DJs can rely on to move dancefloors, time and time again.

Some artists make their entrance into the music world with a bang, others are more like a continuous presence – you can’t seem to remember a time when they weren’t there. Matt-U falls into the latter category, with a catalogue that stretches back nearly a decade across many seminal labels, including D&B releases for Moving Shadow, Timeless, Cylon and Randall’s imprint Mac II, collaborating with heavyweights like Loxy, Jade and SKC.

From 2008 onwards Matt focused his productions on the dubstep scene, and has enjoyed regular support ever since – his tunes became a mainstay of Youngsta & N-Type sets on Rinse FM, and currently receive weekly play from Skream & Benga on their Friday night BBC Radio 1 show. Alongside the airtime there has been sustained DJ support, backed up with releases across a selection of the best dubstep labels – including twelves on Kryptic Minds’ imprint Osiris Music and DJ N-Type’s essential Wheel & Deal label, his ‘Watching U EP’ on Subway, and regular appearances on Black Box.

Focused now on the future, Matt-U is preparing to release the 'Frequency EP' on Black Box – his most substantial record to date – and with it showcase the undeniable craftsmanship of his productions. Alongside his reputation as an uncompromising DJ and with a busy schedule over the upcoming months, Matt looks set to maintain his position in the dubstep A-list for some time to come.
