Swedish pianist / keyboardist,born 25 February 1971 in Umeå.

He plays in , together with Morgan Ågren. The band (originally called Zappstetoot) was formed as early as 1981, when Mats was 10 years old and Morgan 14, before a gig at a music café in Yttertavle outside Umeå, where they - completely without joint rehearsals - played songs by the Beatles and Frank Zappa. And when Frank Zappa played in Stockholm in 1988, the young duo got the chance to play a song with the band, on stage in front of an audience, which led to them being invited to the 1993 projects Zappa's Universe and Zappa at Lincoln Center.

Öberg has also played with Mats Öberg Trio, Ale Möller Band, Fläskkvartetten, Lena Willemark, Frank Zappa, Mikael Ramel, Jonas Knutsson, Jimmy Ågren, King Crimson, and more. He has studied at the Royal Academy of Music, for among others Stefan Nilsson.

Mats Öberg has a wide musical background. His father Staffan Öberg plays the saxophone and the uncles Sten Öberg and Stig-Ola Öberg are among the Umeå area's most merited jazz drummers. Mats Öberg is also the nephew of the pianist and composer Bernt Egerbladh.
