Italian folk band Marta Sui Tubi was formed in 2002 by John Gulino and Carmelo Pipitone. Each had spent time in previous bands, but came together through exchanging acoustic demos. By 2004 the lineup had filled out somewhat with the addition of auxiliary players. Both their 2008 album Sushi & Coca as well as their 2011 long-player Carne con Gli Occhi managed to edge their way onto the Italian Top 100 chart, each just breaking into the lower echelons around the time of their releases and staying there for a week each. ~ Fred Thomas
