Born: 3 May 1965 in Coventry, England, UK.
A prolific producer and director, he is best known as a director for his 15-hour documentary "The Story Of Film: An Odyssey" (2011), and as a critic for his stint on cult BBC Two film series "Moviedrome" (1997-2000). In 2019, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society Of Edinburgh.
He lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, with his longterm partner Gill Moreton, a psychologist.
