Maria Forsström

About this artist

Swedish mezzo-soprano and conductor from Gothenburg.
After an organ degree at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, she continued in the diploma class in choral conducting for Professor Anders Eby and graduated with a diploma in 1998. Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London followed with "Early Music Studies".
She has a broad musical experience in several areas, since after her studies she worked as a vocalist at the Gothenburg Opera and as an assistant conductor at the Malmö Music Theater. A yearning for the Russian musical line led to studies in orchestral conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg during the years 2000-2002. Maria Forsström has been artistic leader of Göteborgs Gosskör since 2001, and in this role successfully led the choir to a position as one of the country's leading choir choirs.
In 2001, Maria began to study singing for the operatic mentor Sten Sjöstedt in Gothenburg and since 2005 for the professors Dorothy Irving and Matti Hirvonen. She has studied Rossini repertoire for Susanna Rigacci in Florence and is now coached by the altar Anna Larsson. Maria has since achieved great success with her Bach and Mahler interpretations. She is also a prominent romance singer with a broad repertoire and great dramatic expression. Since 2008 she is associated with the artist agency Eliasson Artists, Stockholm and in 2009 debuted in Tokyo with music by Gustav Mahler. Her voice and expression have been compared to the altar Kathleen Ferrier.
