Blending soft club beats and a playful palette that juxtaposes orchestral timbres with the lite tones of lounge, ’80s synths, and computer music, the low-key electronica of Manatee Commune is the creation of Pacific Northwest musician Grant Eadie. The project’s eponymous 2016 debut album included the viral single “What We’ve Got” featuring Flint Eastwood. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist from Washington state, Grant Eadie started Manatee Commune in Bellingham before relocating to Portland, Oregon. He signed with Bastard Jazz Recordings and released the Thistle EP in early 2016. The full-length Manatee Commune followed later the same year. A mix of whimsical dance instrumentals and more structured songs, it included appearances by guest vocalists Marina Price and Moorea Masa in addition to Flint Eastwood. In the meantime, Manatee Commune shared his remixes of tracks originally by Aloe Blacc and Petit Biscuit, among others. With guests including Samuel Eisen and Allie Crystal, the project’s second album, PDA, arrived via Bastard Jazz in 2019. Manatee Commune followed the release with a tour in support of Geographer. ~ Marcy Donelson
