Electronic/techno producer Tim Van de Meutter (aka Locked Groove) walks the line between house and techno, preferring to explore ideas rather than adhere to strict genre conventions. As with many producers, Meutter’s tracks became more sophisticated over time, from a weighty early release on Hotflush, 2012′s Rooted EP to the more heads-down feel of “End/Scherzo” in 2015. A string of releases on his eponymous label in 2018 feature some of his most left-field productions, including “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” and “Journey to the Center of the Third Eye.” Meutter’s career began in Belgium 2012, when the Rooted EP was picked up by Hotflush; this kick-started a busy release schedule that included the Different Paths EP on Turbo Recordings. The following year, he established his own label, also named Locked Groove, with the single “Waves” its initial release. His career blossoming, Meutter moved to Berlin in 2014 and continued to release EPs throughout the year, including the Brown EP on We Play House and Thesseus on Permanent Vacation. Eventually the rapid rate of releases began to slow, with 2015 seeing only two 12”s, “End/Scherzo” and “Elysium/Pulsar,” before trailing off completely in 2016. Locked Groove returned in 2017 with a release on Kompakt titled Speicher 96, with Christian Nielsen. LG reopened the floodgates the following year: 2018 saw the release of multiple records, including Zillion, The Gate, From Beyond, and Oscillate, all released on his own label. ~ Liam Martin
