About this artist

UK dance act originally comprising Eamon Downes and Shane Heneghan, until the latter party left. Downes claimed that he called himself Liquid because of his liking for ‘the odd drink’. Early influences were dub maestros such as Barrington Levy and Scientist. Liquid became one of the first progressive house acts in the UK Top 20, with 1992’s ‘Sweet Harmony’, recorded as a duo, conceived as a reaction to the ‘louder faster’ rules of hardcore rave music. It cost only £60 to record yet saw them grace UK television’s Top Of The Pops stage when it was re-released by XL Recordings. After a period in the shadows Downes re-emerged with the Time To Get Up EP. He continued to release material throughout the 90s and early 00s, with impressive singles including ‘Strong’ (1998) and ‘Orlando Dawn’ (2000). Having long since discredited the mainstream, Downes’ later work has experimented with live vocals and instruments.
