About this artist
Billed as an Acid Jazz outfit, Chicago's Liquid Soul crank out a heavier, more aggressively funky sound than their contemporaries in the genre. The mix of free-spirited soloing with tight, inflexible bass/drum grooves can tend toward contradiction, but leader Mars Williams turns in some searing sax work that goes a ways towards compensating.
