About this artist

La Vela Puerca arose spontaneously in the streets of Montevideo, Uruguay when a bunch of friends starting improvising together during a street fair in 1995. After choosing a name and recording a few songs, they entered a competition for new bands called "Generacion '96" and won. The top prize was eighty hours of studio time and the band set about recording 1999's Deskarado. The album ultimately went platinum in Montevideo and caught the ear of award-winning producer Gustavo Santaolalla, who brought a few members of the group to Los Angeles to remix it and re-release it as La Vela Puerca. Gigs with heavyweights like Bersuit and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs followed and the band released the stellar follow-up De Bichos Y Flores in 2002.
