Discussions on the music of Jad Fair usually end with him being exalted as a great example of honesty and the D.I.Y. Punk aesthetic or someone crying, "I don't get it." Whether with his brother David as Half Japanese or on his own, Fair's records have always been unpolished and selfless glimpses into an almost childlike mind. His endearing bits of noise, folk, children's songs and Avant Jazz have weathered every possible musical climate for almost twenty years. Perhaps we haven't yet caught on to his vision. Either that, or he's outright bonkers.
