Indigo De Souza

About this artist

Indigo De Souza’s intimate, anxious indie rock songs wrangle with disappointment and relationship challenges. Following a pair of short-form releases, she delivered her debut album, I Love My Mom, in 2018. She then signed with Saddle Creek, which reissued the debut just weeks before releasing the tempestuous Any Shape You Take in 2021.
Raised in small-town Spruce Pine, North Carolina, and later based in Asheville, De Souza recorded her first EP, Boys, in a friend’s garage in 2016. Tracked at New Galaxy Records with producer/instrumentalist Ethan Baechtold, the three-song EP don’t cry just do followed in 2017.
Collecting her strongest songwriting from the previous few years, she recorded her first full-length to tape at a friend’s house with Owen Stone and Jake Lenderman (aka MJ Lenderman), who co-produced and acted as her backing band. Sporting a rawer and more dissonant sound, I Love My Mom was self-released in June 2018. Saddle Creek took note and gave it a proper label release and vinyl pressing in June 2021. Co-produced by De Souza and Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Waxahatchee), the follow-up, Any Shape You Take, arrived soon after, in August. In the meantime, De Souza embarked her first headlining tour. ~ Marcy Donelson
