Swedish jazz bassist, born in Karlstad, Sweden 1966.
Hans Backenroth (b. 1966) started playing classical guitar at the municipal music school and switched to electric bass in his teens. During high school, jazz came in and his began to play double bass in parallel with the electric bass. Studying at Birkagårdens Folkhögskola and the Academy of Music in Stockholm, Hans quickly became one of the foremost and most hired bassists on the Swedish jazz scene. Hans has played with legends Bengt Hallberg, Monica Zetterlund, Rune Gustafsson and 13 years with Arne Domnérus groups. Since 1987, he has played with tenor saxophone legend Bernt Rosengren. Hans has also played with artists such as Rebecka Törnqvist, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Tommy Körberg, Malena Ernman and Lill Lindfors and with international names such as Kenny Barron, Doug Raney, Toots Thielemans, Roger Kellaway, Clark Terry and Ed Thigpen.
